Blog Awards

Cheers for everyone!

Thank you so very much for all of the thoughtful e-mails and comments I’ve received naming this blog for these awards. Woo-hoo! To me, blog awards are for celebrating the good times, the thoughtful times, the times that made us laugh, learn and grow. How lucky we are to be bloggers!

(as of June 2012)

Thank you all so very much for honoring me with these wonderful, good-spirited awards. I am deeply humbled and so happy to have received them. Here are the acceptance posts, with links to those I’ve awarded in turn.

(published March 2011)

There’s a fantastic, great-spirited award being passed around inside the blogging community — the Stylish Blogger Award.

Reminds me of when our house was first “ghosted.” Shortly before Halloween one year, I opened my front door and saw a paper ghost someone had taped there. I learned I’d been “tagged,” and now had to go tape ghosts on other people’s doors. True fun.

Just like this award. And I’d like to thank The MommyDidi Wright and Reeling in the Years for honoring me with it! Thank you so much!

Sometimes the “ghosts” came with plastic pumpkins filled with candy on the front steps. The Stylish Blogger Award doesn’t come with candy (dang!) but it does come with questions. Here are my answers:

How long have you been in your current relationship?
I’ve been married for more than a decade to a man I met on almost my first day at college. Now we have two beautiful children.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I can recite the alphabet backwards. Fast.

What are your greatest fears?
Nutcrackers. The ones with the big white teeth. Can’t stand them.

What is your favorite food?
Chocolate first. Tomatoes second.

What is your most rewarding memory?
The births of my two children. Hands down. And any time they both smile at me at the same time. Or grab my hand. Or give me a hug.

At which store could you spend an entire day by yourself?
None! I hate shopping. Well, maybe a bookstore.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
Eating what I call “white-trash granola” (chocolate chips and peanuts in a bowl with a spoon) while watching someone crazier than me on the Discovery Channel. If I’m feeling snazzy, I’ll add in dried cranberries.

Thanks for reading! Now, for the final part of the Stylish Blogger Award: Name 5 to 10 friends whose blogs you admire, and to whom you’d like to pass on this Award.

Bob and Jack’s Writing Blog
Ink Jot
Life as We Know It
New Mind Snack
My Little Dog
Reeling in the Years
Sanja Panja
Wish I Were There 24/7

I’ve found each of these bloggers to be special, unique and have their own voice. Plus, I’ve exchanged comments with all of them, and they’re nice! Check them out! Oh, and the first one, Bob and Jack — they are my writing mentors. Gurus. Ask, and they shall answer. Also check our their website: The Weekend Novelist.

Oh my goodness. My new blogging friend over at RT Crita’s Blog just gave me the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you so much! I’m quite honored, and glad you like reading my posts. Yours are fun too, and so full of energy. As with other blogging awards, this one comes with some “rules” to help share the fun.

1. Thank and link to the person who awarded you.
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the award on to 7 new-found blogging buddies.
4. Contact those buddies, and congratulate them!

In my short time blogging, I’ve had the pleasure of reading posts from so many wonderful writers. Some of whom I honored with the Stylish Blogger Award. You guys are great! Keep it coming!

For this award, I looked through some past comments and posts, and chose writers who entertain. Who make me think. Who say something fresh, or offer good and useful information. As implied by the award, we are new blogging-buddies, and I look forward to more shared posts and comments in the future. Here’s the list:

Butterfingers for Breakfast
Big Happy Nothing
Herding Cats in Hammond River
Leah’s Thoughts
Merry Musing
Mostly Bright Ideas
The Ramblings

Congratulations! And now for the seven random facts:

1. I am not a twin. Though my sister and I are just 16 months apart, and were periodically confused for twins as we grew up. Even though I am 6 inches taller than her.

2. My own children, who are 18 months apart, were also once confused as twins. Even though my son was 20 months old and hopping along the sidewalk, while my infant daughter slept in the stroller. Hmmm…

3. My husband has never been confused for being my twin.

4. I love chocolate in all forms except for chocolate ice cream. Blech.

5. I believe in the “smaller” holidays, like Flag Day. I did a story on this once, back when I was a TV reporter, and it was one of the most beautiful pieces I ever turned in. An elderly man told me about what the colors of the flag stand for, as we cut to a bright flag against a clear sky. “Red is for courage. White is for purity. And Blue is for freedom,” he said. I’ve always remembered that, and I wonder if they still teach that in school. (Flag Day is June 14th.)

6. I love learning about history. Though suffered miserably in school history classes.

7. My sister is pregnant! Okay, so that’s not a fact about me. But it’s on my mind constantly these days. And no, she’s not having twins.

Thanks for reading, and congratulations all!

It’s a wonderful thing — to receive a blog award. If for no other reason than it solidifies what you are doing as a blogger. That is, being a writer.

A blog award is a little something “tangible” you can hold onto and smile upon as you read its description and see why you were chosen to receive it. It connects you to other bloggers and offers a window into worlds you may otherwise have missed. And most of all, it’s a gift.

1. Complete the questions below.
2. Link back to the person who gave you the award.
3. Pass the award on to 5-10 of your fellow bloggers and let them know.

Favorite Song?
This is a hard one! I love all types of music. Heavy metal, Big Band, Orchestral, Oldies, Jazz, Country — each medium has something unique to offer, and so many memories to alight. When I hear, “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,” I remember the year I spent in Idaho as a reporter/anchor, which is also where I saw my first rodeo. Have you ever seen Mutton Bustin’?

Do not click on that link if you are faint of heart. The first time I saw this “event,” I nearly had apoplexy.

In any event, back to songs. My favorite song at this very moment is “Over the River and Through the Woods,” because both my children sang this to me as a duet the other day. Priceless.

Favorite Dessert?
Anything chocolate.

What Breaks Your Heart?
Seeing one of my children in pain.

Biggest Fear?
Many of my fears are personal, so of course I’m not going to list them! But a “superficial” fear would have to be Nutcrackers. Not the utensils, but the soldiers with bared teeth. Eek.

What is Perfection?
A noun.

Guilty Pleasure?
Reading a book. I read every night before I fall asleep, as during the day I just don’t have time. Well, I do read during the day, to my children, but as for my own literary choices, there’s nothing I like better than curling up with a good book. Or — on a weekend morning when my husband is home and can take care of the kids, I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to crawl back into bed and open up a book!

And now for the pay-it-forward part. In searching for the origins of this award, which I’m assuming is given to bloggers who are considered creative, I found this link. This blog’s author suggests a new way to interpret the award by “creating” your own new dish. In that theme, here are 5 Kreativ Food Bloggers to whom I would like to pass this award:

Cookie-Spree – because I have made her Mexican Wedding Cookies three times this past month

Michelle & El’s Kitchen – because her recipes are fun, bright and inspiring

She Cooks, He Eats – because the stories which accompany her recipes are like dinner and dessert

Leah’s Thoughts – because she is a dedicated mom who makes great meals for her family

Bento Lunch — because her bento lunches for her children are awe-inspiring

And one more, Sanja Panja – she hasn’t posted in a while, but I know she’s still around, and her food-based posts are moments of welcome calm in my hectic days!

And here are 5 Kreativ non-food bloggers who have unique and enjoyable points of view:

Wacky Womanhood – because she’s a great writer and knows how to laugh at herself

Peg-o-Leg’s Ramblings – because she has the kind of quick wit to make me smile every time

Nineteenfortyeight — because he sees the funny side in just about everything

Bye Bye Brooklyn – because her home renovations are slightly insane (in a good way) and always tempered with humor

Big Happy Nothing — because through her humble attitude, she finds a smile in every day

Congratulations all!

Given by The Woman At The Well

This award is for those bloggers whose words light the way through the blogosphere. It originated at Believe Anyway, for blogs “that bring light to the world [and offer] inspiration, hope, optimism, good advice, faith filled assurances, and even humor.”

There are no rules for this award. It’s just a way of pointing out inspirational blogs. To that end, I would like to pass the Candle Lighter Award on to the following blogs:

My Wife Doesn’t Think I’m Funny – because he’s funny, good-spirited and big into his family

From Bogans to Mormons – because she has a rich family history and an adventurous life in the Outback

MJ Monaghan – because he is gracious, insightful and welcoming

Arbor Familiae – because he cares about history, family and sees through to the important things in life

The Barefoot Indian – because she is a loving frontier mom whose boys live an adventure every day

Being Arindam – because he speaks from the heart and is curious about why we do what we do

An Improbable Life – because she is bright, loving and appreciates her improbable life

The Island Traveler – because he is a dedicated father with an overwhelming love for his family

Notes to My Muses — because my friend Jane has come up with a unique and delightful way to blog: by writing letters to her favorite authors

Mama’s Empty Nest — because she fills up her empty nest with love every day, family when she can, and gratefulness always

And since there are no “rules” for this award, I would like to give it to the person who gave it to me, The Woman at the Well, as she is a source of devotion and inspiration and already has all these awards anyway!

Congratulations all!

These are the awards awaiting my “acceptance speeches.”  :)  Stay tuned to see who I’ve chosen to pass these awards on to — and enjoy even more happy clicking!

    • Thanks for the nudge! I’ll think about adding that in. :) Blogging awards seem to come in cycles. Every now and then, they pop up and get passed around, and then things quiet down for a bit. The more you comment and show interest in other people’s blogs, the more they will return the interest in yours. It’s all part of being in a community, I’ve found. Which didn’t come naturally for me at first! But, as you know from that Freshly Pressed post you mentioned, now I get it. Here’s hoping your first award is already in the making!
